I just finished reading E. McNew's "Long Blue Line" and was pretty blown away by the honesty and emotion of this heartfelt memoir. While it is described as a memoir about planned teenage pregnancy, this really felt more to me about addiction and what this disease can take from families. It's clear that many of the other reviewers don't understand this one bit. However, as someone who is a long-time recovering addict (and mother) herself, I can understand this and relate to this story more than words can say. The author's deeds may have seemed selfish on the surface, but they were a byproduct of an untreated illness. I found the story itself to be gripping, emotional, honest and incredibly well-written. Definitely recommend.

The story is long and drawn out with lots of mistakes. The content is micro-managed. More editing is needed. The responsibility of Elisabeth's behavior was placed on everyone around her, a trade for most addicts. Three kids before the age of twenty, which Elisabeth claims to love with all her heart, seems to be a lot of responsibility for such a young girl. I can't help but wonder why she felt a need to produce more children after the first one, knowing she was addicted. It's a sad story because bad choices wrecked many lives.

What a story. Between Long Blue Line and the last few books I've read, (including The Girl With No Past: A gripping psychological thriller and Spilled Milk: Based On A True Story) I'm back into reading full-throttle. I haven't dedicated myself to reading in quite a few years, and I am excited to have a hobby that takes me away from the busy world. This memoir is one that many women (myself included) will probably be able to relate to. The author takes you through some serious issues with despair, co-dependency, parenting issues, substance abuse and so much more. What she's gone through in her short life is astounding. I recommend this book for anyone who is struggling with the mentioned issues and if you think you're alone, read this book.

When I first started this book (I don't like books that start with dreams) I found the writing sophomoric, but I was hoping for it to turn around .... sadly it never did for me ... it just seemed to be a story written by a narrcisitic personality.

This book was interminably long and poorly written. Bad grammar, typos, shoddy style and a non-inspiring story line are it's biggest problems. If this woman has become a successful author, I may have a shot at the Nobel Peace Prize. The story itself is a nightmare. And, to have ruined the lives of three children, then trying to jam a "feel-good" ending down our throats at the end is obnoxious. Especially when we know she hasn't even the backbone to distance herself from her 2nd husband. She ended the book giving us no plausible reason for thinking she would finally embark on a sensible life journey. Anti-depressants aren't magical. It would have been far more compelling if she committed to intense psychotherapy and began looking into local college nursing programs as ways for the reader to cheer her on. But, to temporarily move to AZ to hang out with an uncle for a while? No way. It was obvious she had no plan to repair the dangerous pattern of her life. I simply could not picture her as one to pull up her bootstraps and I closed the book thinking she'd go on to another minimum wage job with a man with the same minimum wage job (because, God forgive, she live without a man for one minute) and always have no more than a peripheral status in her child's life.Inexplicably, we don't know what happened to her 2nd child. This was ridiculous. We know it was horrific and she had to have surgery because of it. What was the big deal not letting us know? Was it vaginal surgery? Rectal? Was it a sexual assault, even? And why didn't she tear up the PD until they got to the bottom of it? Even her brother-in-law got away with murdering his own child. It makes no sense. Needless to say, the kid was taken away from her because her judgement in whom to trust with her child's safekeeping was appallingly bad.Instead, she marries a man who was most likely complicit in the crime against her own baby. And the reader is supposed to be happy because she's removing herself from the dysfunction of her in-laws and, evidently, not concern ourselves with the nightmare family to whom she's entrusting her child. The kid was doomed, thanks to a mother with very deficient parenting judgement. This book was bad from every angle and, despite her thinking she finally takes charge of her life, she absolutely continues to view herself as a victim. This coming from an individual who resolutely got pregnant at the age of 15! Her 1st child wasn't an accident. It was her plan. Here's another issue: I got really tired of her trailer trash lifestyle. The meth, the screwing around with other men, squatting in peoples' vacation homes, continuing to run back to the abusive loser husband, etc. was all pretty disgusting. I really think the coup de gras was her dancing on top of the bar. Now that was a true signature of trailer trash.Needless to say, this book was not for me and I can't recommend it for all the reasons above.P.S. the reader needs to understand the difference between coincidence and irony.

This would be a five star book if it had better editing. It seemed just as I was totally engrossed in the substance of the story another mistake would glaringly hit me in the face and ruin the moment. Otherwise, this story is a must read for teens with long discussions held afterwards.

Poor grammar but interesting read. She really is a bad mom. I want to know the end of her story if she ever saw her kids again or just gave up. Would read the next one.

Very disappointed in the way this girl blames everyone else for her situation. I really looked forward to her situation to change because she had changed and stopped jumping from boyfriend to boyfriend but this never happened. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that she might still have the same drug problems.
