One of my almost-three year old son's favorite authors is Chris Houghton. We have his other two currently available books "SHH! We Have a Plan" and "Oh No, George!". My son loves these books so much, he has heard them so many times he learned some sight words from them.This was the last Houghton book we bought. I think it was Houghton's first, though.The four main characters are so sweet and funny and adorable. The artwork is beautiful. The board book is short. I purchased the board book version of this one because we have the other two in full size (quite big) and wanted something more portable from this author. My son can handle this comfortably in his car seat and it fits in his backpack easily. He loves the book. It stars three of his favorite animals: squirrel, owl, and frog. Of course he recognized the style as being by one of his favorites, so it wasn't a hard sell.Of all the books by this author, this one is my personal favorite to read aloud.
We borrowed the original edition of this book from the library. My 22-month-old son started asking to read this book before every nap and every bedtime, so I decided that I should buy a copy for ourselves so he wouldn't be heartbroken when we had to take it back to the library. We've been borrowing books for a while, and this is the first time I've ever taken this step--that is just how much he loves it!I'm so happy we got a copy for our own, and this edition includes all of the "Americanizations" that I used to have to make as I read aloud (ie, "mommy" for "mummy" and "cookies" for "biscuits.") Although reading some books over and over again gets tiring, somehow I haven't gotten sick of this one--I even just noticed some hidden details in the illustrations the other day. Highly recommended!
Super cute!!! My daughter requests this book to be read many times. I love how we can talk about the different Mommys and also the importance of staying with Mommy!
We borrowed this book from the library so many times, that after a while it was easier to just buy it. My little one was always so sad to have to return it to the library, and was so excited to be able to have one "to keep". Nearly a year later, he's still pointing out excitedly that 'look, there's no library sticker!' It's such a cute and cuddly story. I've seen reviews that say the ending is not great. To that I say: it's a children's book, not a blockbuster movie. It's thoughtful and cute and just the right sentiment that a little one can understand and enjoy over and over.
A beautiful and entertaining book loved by our 2.5 year old and adults alike! It's our favorite go-to kid gift of the moment too!
Good illustrations excellent text, does not introduce language that a 2 year old cannot comprehend.A good book to have in Day Care children can relate to it.
We love this book. We love this book so much, we got two other of this author's books (Shhh We Have a Plan, and Oh No, George!), and they did not disappoint either. Fun and clever storyline with visually striking graphics. My LO loves the page where Little Owl finds its mommy.
Fabulous board book! This is our second one. The first was loved beyond repair!
