This is a colorful and useful book for short-term travellers to the New Delhi area who want a guide to show them around. It is not exhaustive, nor is it for the budget travel as far as food and accommodations are concerned. However, as either a supplement or a stand alone guide to the sights, it is easy to carry, has great pictures and drawings like all of the DK books, and provides a good overview of key sights by type. I planned two brief trips through Delhi and New Delhi and the book got me around just fine.
This is a great book if you have just a few days in Delhi. It gives you all the information you need on the top sites and great pictures to visually see if the places intrigue you. I recommend it only if you know alot about India or have been to India before. If you have not been to India before, I would supplement this book with a more detailed book about India and the lifestyle there.
I didn't want to miss the things in Delhi I should see, so I bought this book just before the trip. Turns out, by reading the DK Eyewitness book on Delhi, Agra, Jaipur (the golden triangle) I already knew the content of this book. For some of the adventure, see my videos, like this one: [...]
I am shocked DK would let this out for sale. Their hight quality books are like National Geographic books. Not this version for Kindle, it is short, few pictures and really not a useful travel tool.
In general, I love the DK series of travel guides. This one was no exception - great practical information. If your eyes glaze over when using the big travel guides, you will love the conciseness of this one.
I have used Eyewitness Guides for cities before and found them informative without being too big to carry around. This one hs good maps, but not enough detail about how to get to the sights, restaurants, shops, etc. Does not give enough of an overview of the city to have an idea of what order to see sights in. Disappointing.
