Review

"An exclusive look at a new book on Renzo Mongiardino reveals rare images of the Italian designer’s most iconic interiors"—Wall Street Journal Magazine"He was the master of illusion, a man entrusted by global arbiters of taste including Marella Agnelli, Jil Sanders, Lee Radziwill, and Elsa Peretti to transform their homes. For many, the Genoa-born Renzo Mongiardino was the artist who elevated interior design into an art form worthy of longevity. The book is filled with envy-inducing photographs by Guido Taroni making it hard not to sigh and declare: 'To have had those houses, those budgets, and Mongiardino.' "—TheDailyBeast.com"Martina Mondadori Sartogo, the editor of the twice-yearly Cabana magazine, grew up in interiors designed by Mongiardino, thus, it is only apropos that she authors a book on the design legend. Renzo Mongiardino: A Painterly Vision shows the designer's work in all its glory — from expansive room shots to minute decorative details — accompanied by essays from the likes of Radziwill and Elsa Peretti."—Forbes.com"With this new book by Rizzoli, you can take a last look into the beautiful world Renzo Mongiardino created, and left for all to be inspired by. A humble offering to one of the most talented creators of ambiance who ever lived."—Color Outside the Lines Blog"On My Bookshelf: Fall Must-Haves"—La Dolce Vita Blog"Exploring the work of the late Renzo Mongiardino, this tome illustrates why he is one of the most iconic designers of the 20th century. Photography includes never-before-published work, and features some of his signature choices, trompe l’oeil finishes, museum-quality antiques and sumptuous fabrics."—EditorAtLarge.com

"Renzo Mongiardiano: A Painterly Vision" is a 270-page book worthy of the late Italian architect and decorator. Exceptional photography by Guido Taroni provides close-ups so powerful that the reader can well imagine himself/herself not only in the rooms depicted but also privileged to have touched the decorative objects, wall coverings, and upholstery fabrics. Subsections of the book number 20 and include such titles as the 17th century revisited; a hidden paradise; house of memories; a study in pattern; and a magical marriage of city and country. No matter the section, there is great coherence of style throughout the book. There is no minimalism, be it in the wall and ceiling treatments, lighting, decorative artifacts, and love of layering. Fabrics are rich as are the colors, which call to mind both classical Italian painting and the deep tints of Tuscany. Text plays a secondary role, and so an analytical assessment of the architect-designer is more limited than in some earlier books on Mongiardino.

Renzo Mongiardino was a genius interior designer/decorator. You'd never know it from this book. The photos are so dark -- you can barely see his beautifully arranged rooms and beautifully chosen furniture, colors, textures. His rooms were both elegant and comfortable. The layout of the photos is terrible, too. I'm sorry I bought this book. I'll look for another.

The written text is beautifully composed but most photos are too dark and many pages disappointing because of the chosen subjects and lack of light.I find it hard to believe the publisher would print such dark photographs?By comparison. Michelle Nussbaumer's, Wanderlust is far superior.I was hoping this purchase would be of similar quality and interest but sadly it isn't.If it's possible to obtain a refund kindly contact me.

Beautiful book, and it was shipped and arrived in excellent condition! Very pleased with my purchase!

excellent, well researched and written, and brilliant photos, Worth it,

I have the earlier books on Mongardino, 1993 & 2103, this book lacks in any sort of depth or story of this master. Close photos of his interiors do nothing to show the overall lushness of his rooms.

Many dark photos. Not much text. Rather depressing.

Gorgeous unseen interiors by Mongiardino and a fresher eye on his rooms thanks to Guido Taroni's photos. This book is stunning and highly recommended
