"Overwhelming . . . a must-read for American Jews, particularly those on college campuses who have no inkling of how to counter the massive verbal assault on Israel. . . . A profound contribution to a country now in dire straits." Jerusalem PostIn this impassioned book, Harvard Law School professor Alan Dershowitz responds to Israels vociferous opponentsand explains why Israel, while not perfect, is a country that has earned the right to exist and defend itself. Drawing on scrupulous research and his peerless skills as an advocate, Dershowitz conclusively refutes thirty-two separate slurs, slanders, and misrepresentations that have been hurled at Israel in recent years, from "Jews have always rejected the two-state solution" and "Israel created the Arab refugee problem" to "universities should divest from Israel." Hard-hitting, well-reasoned, and provocative, The Case for Israel is essential reading if youre concerned about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East."A lively, hotly argued broadside against Israels increasingly venomous critics."Washington Post Book World"Passionately argued . . . revealing and persuasive."The Times (London)"Dershowitz . . . knows how to construct an argument. . . . Especially effective at pointing to the hypocrisy of many of Israels critics."New York Times Book Review

Can't say enough about this read! Easy to understand the history of Israel, mainly for the last Century during the "right of return" to the Holy Land that Jews have been in for 3,000 years! Explains the case for Israel, the bigotry, anti-semitism, and one sided World opinion, unfairly levied towards the Jewish State. Also details how terror groups have consistantly walked away from at least 3 different peace proposals, (one of which Saudi Prince Bandar even told Arafat that refusing it would amount to a criminal offense). Arafat walked away for more terror instead, because they do NOT want peace, at the expense of recognizing Israel's right to exist! Great read!
Dershowitz writes a polemic for Israel, but overlooks two essential points.First, American foreign politicy toward Israel violates the advice of George Washington in his Farewell Address on foreign policy, -- that between foreign powers at odds with each other abroad, we should take a position of friendly neutrality, and avoid taking sides. In Washington's day, the two contending powers were Great Britain and France in Europe, in our time, the two contending powers are Arabs and Jews in the Middle East. Thomas Jefferson departed from Washington's advice, and got us into the War of 1812, which nearly lost American Independence. That war was brought to an end by the Hartford Convention which threatened secession of New England from the Union. Our current departure from Washington's advice of many Presidents has led to universal detestation of the United States abroad, and involvement of the United States in costly, bloody wars and misuse of American generosity over seventy years, to no advantage to the United States. Dershowitz mentions nothing about Washington's timeless wisdomDershowitz also disregards the indefensible attack of the Israeli air force and navy against the U. S. S. Liberty over many hours in broad daylight during the Six Days' War, proving with moral certainty that Israel is not friend, but a dangerous enemy of the United States. These omissions invalidate the case which Dershowitz makes for Israel. Our special relationship with Israel must come to an end -- John Remington Graham of the Minnesota Bar (#3664X)
Alan Dershowitz makes clear and accurate arguments in defense and advancement of Israel. This is a MUST READ for any person who is pro-Israel. Knowledge is power, and this book provides the reader with this ever important knowledge. Highly recommended.
Interesting concise writing. The topics are usually short so that they are explained easily and easy to understand. Lots of references included.
Enlightening
A must read by anyone seeking the truth about the Israeli-Palestinian history and conflict. I noticed many one-star reviews, mostly from people who have never read the book, not by verified purchasers of the book. And therein lies the problem. People who blindly believe people like Arafat or Chomsky without studying the actual history and series of events will be duped by false narratives. You owe it to yourself to read this book in order to engage in intelligent debate.
WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT ISRAEL.. READ THIS BOOK
As a lawyer, Alan Dershowitz lays out the case for the defense for the state of Israel. His book is very well written and was easy to understand. There are criticizims and untruths about the Jewish homeland. Also as Alan Dershowitz points out, there is a double standard when it comes to Israel's security and defense. I found I was more knowledgable after reading this book. I highly recommend "The Case For Israel to any serious reader.
